Following a woeful week in which Spurs lost to their bitter rivals Arsenal and were then knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb, the pressure was well and truly on Mourinho to get a positive result at Villa Park.
But in the end it was a comfortable night for his side,
as goals from Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane saw them move just three points
off a place in the top four.
At the full-time whistle Mourinho was seen embracing
Terry, who is now assistant head coach at Villa and who served the Portuguese
manager so well for so many years at Chelsea.
And just hours later Mourinho took to Instagram to share
a picture of himself and Terry along with the caption: "Proud of my team
@spursofficial and especially happy to feel my boys are and always will be my
boys @john.terry26."
Considering the rivalry between Spurs and Chelsea,
supporters of the North Londoners may not be best pleased to see Mourinho's
attention was so focused on a Blues legend rather than on his own team.
And with him hardly being flavour of the month at the
moment, some may consider Mourinho's post ill-judged as he looks to get both
the Spurs players and fans back on his side.
Mourinho and his team now have a much-needed
international break before they return to action against Newcastle on April 4.
"Football nowadays is not easy in relation to that," he said. "Selfishness is around. Individual interests are around. Agents are around. The connections between agents and the press are around.
