The Wales captain, 31, has another year left on his £31million-a-year contract at Real Madrid and Bale admitted he is planning for another season with the side he has won four Champions Leagues with.
‘There’s no distraction for me. I think the main reason I
came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost,’ Bale said in
a press conference.
Going into the Euros I wanted to be match-fit. The original
plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at
Real Madrid.’
‘My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.’
The Welsh winger also admitted it was nice to get away from
his club after a string of poor results – which included a shock Europa League
exit to Dinamo Zagreb – to get a mental break on international duty.
‘I always think when things aren’t going too well at a club,
it’s nice to mentally get away from the environment,’ Bale added.
‘It can be a benefit.
We focus on these games, which are very important for us.
‘We forget club life and concentrate on this.’
The winger struggled
to get to match fitness during the early months of his loan spell but showed
good form in recent months. He has scored five goals in 12 Premier League
appearances and a further five goals in cup competitions.
