Emenike’s biggest agony

Having gone through some rough roads to fame, Emmanuel Emenike’s biggest agony remains the death of his father who taught him the lesson of living large in life.

Emenike once said that his father Pa Felix Ndukwu Emenike, made him switch allegiance to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and blessed the day he eventually accepted late dad’s wish to play for the country.

“My dad was my biggest fan,” said Emenike in 2015 through his close pal Samson Oti.

“He made me play for Nigeria and he blessed the day that I will become successful in wearing Nigeria's colours. My dad was a big fan of the Nigeria national team, with my wonderful mum. They both insisted I must play for Nigeria, and sincerely speaking, their blessings have spurred me to greatness and I am still living on it.”

“This is the biggest pain of my career, he taught me everything about life and let me understand the spirit of giving, he taught me how to make myself happy at every troubled time, I will miss him for many years to come.”

Emenike continued: "He always showed me the right way, and I have never regretted any of his advice. This is a man who has seen a brighter future for me and he always told me, my life begins after football.

" He blessed my first trip to South Africa, and today I am living in his blessings. But I am sad he's gone!”

In 2012, there were speculations that Emenike who played for Karabukspor FC could be lured to play for the Turkish national team after showing like millions of stars in the country but there are so many obstacles, apart from his family interference. The rules of the governing body of football, FIFA, played a major part as at then which states that a player must have continuous residence in the country he wants to switch allegiance to for five years.

But the former Karabukspor striker spent only two years in Turkey, so he must wait an additional three years to achieve his 'dream' of playing for Turkey which Emenike could have done.

Pa Emenike died on May 27, 2015 and got a befitting world class burial in Imo State.
